Welcome to the 44th Annual Meeting of JSDB in Okinawa!

Dear colleagues,

On behalf on the organizing committee, I have the pleasure of welcoming you to Okinawa and to the 44th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Developmental Biologists (JSDB), under the joint sponsorship of the Asia Pacific Developmental Biology Network (APDBN), which will be held during May 18-21, 2011 in Ginowan City, Okinawa.

First, I would like to thank all lecturers of the plenary session, symposia and workshops for taking time out of their busy schedule to come to Okinawa. As you know, Japan suffered from a strong earthquake on March 11, which severely damaged research activity especially in the Tohoku area. I think that it is a great encouragement that foreign lecturers and participants visit Japan at this time and share their scientific enthusiasm with Japanese researchers.

Second, for making the meeting program, all members of the organizing committee have intensively discussed current topics as well as future possible directions in the field of developmental biology. During this process, other JSDB colleagues have cooperated with the committee members to plan symposia and workshops as organizers, and also to select oral presentations as referees. On this occasion, I would like to thank all of these colleagues for helping us to prepare the meeting program. I believe that all participants will find very attractive and exciting oral and poster presentations in this meeting.

Lastly, I hope that all participants will enjoy this meeting and have fruitful discussions with each other, which hopefully will develop into future frontier research and collaborative projects.

Ichiro Masai

Chairperson
Organizing Committee of the 44th annual meeting of JSDB 2011
