This site is a petition to save the Australian lungfish from almost certain eventual extinction, threatened by the proposed construction of a megadam on the last remaining undammed river in which the lungfish live naturally.  A large dam was completed only last year on the only other river in which they live and breed.  The effect of this dam on lungfish recruitment is yet to be assessed since it was completed near the end of last year's spawning season and this year's is only just beginning.  The rush to dam the second river before this assessment has been conducted is not only to show SE Queenslanders that their government is doing something about the recent draught and its threat to water supplies but also to avoid the obvious comparison between the 'success' of this dam and the new proposed dam.  Please see: www.stoppress.com.au  for an excellent coverage of why dams are not the answer to SE Queensland's water crisis and especially why the new Paradise dam is not the answer to saving the lungfish. Could you please advertise this petition to save the lungfish amongst your country's people and ask them to sign as soon as possible.
